Today we are going to talk about a baking book from an actual bakery! The Hummingbird Bakery in London is renowned in the food blogging community, and are somewhat known for their cookbooks.
I own The Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days, and I have to say I think it is a great cookbook.
As the front cover states, it is filled with recipes to make every day special.
This is a bold statement, but I think the book lives up to the promise, with a mixture of classic, simple cakes, more advanced showstoppers as well as a few surprising combinations.
A twist on a classic lemon loaf by pairing it with aromatic thyme.
This blood orange cheesecake looks lovely, with the intense colour from the blood oranges.
The chocolate cupcakes look delicious, and ekstra cute in star shapes cupcake cases.
The book is divided in chapters as “Valentine’s Day”, “Easter”, “Summer Afternoon Tea”, “Rainy Day Treats” and “Christmas”.
I have tried several of the recipes, and not only have they all turned out delicious, the recipes are easy to understand and the ingredients are given in metric scale, which is always a plus in my book! (What can I say, I am a scientist, I like my SI-units!)
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a book with good, reliable recipes, which still offers some new, interesting ideas as well as spins on classic recipes.
